Basilica of Bom Jesu is declared a World Heritage Monument. The church houses the sacred relics of St. Francis Xavier, patron saint of Goa. It was found that the saint's body remains as fresh as the day it was buried even today.
Public viewing of saint's body every ten years attracts lakhs of pilgrims. The story behind goes like this: "When St. Francis died, his body was covered with lots of lime so that the flesh would decompose quickly. When the body was exhumed the lime was removed and to the astonishment of all, it was noticed that the body was as fresh as when it was buried".
