Castelo de S. Jorge, also known as Lisbon castle, is situated at the hilltop overlooking the historic centre of the Portuguese city of Lisbon and Tagus River. Apart from portugese history, this monument also provides many cultural and recreational activities to its visitors.

Castle: Moorish Architexture and the ruins of the structure

Permanent Exhibition: the collection consists of objects found in the archaeological area, emphasising on the Moorish period from the 11th – 12th centuries.

Garden with Native Forest Species: Visitors can see cork oak, olive, carob, strawberry, umbrella pine and various fruit trees.

Viewpoint: Provides beautiful view of the area around

Ruins of the former Royal Palace of the Alcacova: The buildings housing the Permanent Exhibition, Café and Casa do Leão Restaurant provide theevidence of the former medieval royal residence.

The castle provides free and informative tours of the monument, and if your visit coincides with one of these tours it is highly recommended to join.

You can climb the hill while enjoying the small streets on the way. The hike is not very difficult.
