Catacombs of Rome are underground burial grounds used by christians and jews. These were built to solve the problems created from lack of space and high priced land.
The corpses were wrapped in a sheet and placed in the niches which were dug along the passageways. These niches were then covered with marble or baked clay gravestones.
The five catacombs which are open to public are: - Catacombs of San Sebastiano - Catacombs of San Callisto - Catacombs of Priscilla - Catacombs of Domitilla - Catacombs of Sant’Agnese
