Central Market Hall is largest of all Budapest market halls. With ideal location, just 5 mins from the city center, this market gets a lot of footfall. This market sells all sort of food - fruits, vegetables, dairy products, salamis, pickles, fresh fish, Hungarian paprika, Tokaj wines, home style meals, Hungarian snacks like Langosand and also various souvenirs such as bags, clothes, pans and pots etc.
Saturdays in general are busier, so if you want to avoid crowd then weekdays are better. Also, locals visit the market early morning till 9AM, so post 9 is better to avoid crowd.
Best time for self guided tour: 10 am to 12 pm or 2 pm to 4 pm
Although crowded but saturdays offer plenty of activities in this market. There are special Cultural Days when one of the countries in the world (from Indonesia to Sweden) showcase their products, travel destinations, offer some live music / show and some food tastings.
