Colosseum, in the past, allowed more than 50000 people to witness the exhibitions of exotic animals, executions of prisioners, gladiator fights etc. These were a source of entertainment for the Romans.
To avoid the long ticket queue, visitors can arrive early in the morning or buy an entrance ticket in the Palatine Hill as it is less crowded. Roma Pass also allows free entry to the Colosseum.

Is the entry to the Colosseum in Rome free? How much is the entry fee?
The Colosseum is free for all on the first Sunday of every month. On other days there is an entry fee of € 16 to € 18. The entry is free for Roma Pass holders.
Is it open on Saturdays and Sundays?
Yes, Colosseum is open on weekends.
How to skip the line to the Colosseum ?
Roma Pass Holders are allowed to skip the Line. Or you can buy Integrated ticket for the Colosseum, Palatino Hill and Roman Forum which allows skip the line.
Is it advisable to take the guided tour or explore by self?
That is very subjective. If you want to know the history and stories of the Colosseum then you can opt for a guided tour. Although you will find brief description of various colosseum areas printed there.
Is the admission to the Colosseum allowed at night?
Yes. From April - October, visits will be from 8pm - midnight, Monday - Saturday. In November and December, visits will be from 6pm-10pm Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
