Christ the Redeemer is the New 7 Wonders of the World located at the peak of Corcovado Mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park and it has become the cultural icon of Rio de Janeiro and Brazil. This statue weighs 635 metric tonnes. This landmark of Rio de Janeiro witness 600,000 visitors a year.

The exterior of the statue is actually a mosaic of thousands of triangular soapstone tiles. Local women volunteers glued them on to strips of cloth, often writing messages, wishes or the names of their boyfriends on the back of the tiles.

It is advisable to avoid the crowd in peak season from December to March. September and October are considered to be the best months to visit the New7Wonders of the World, Christ the Redeemer.

How to get to Christ the Redeemer ?

Cog Train: The fun way to reach the viewpoint of Christ the Redeemer while enjoying the scenic beauty enroute. It is advisable to pre-book the tickets to avoid the queue. he trains depart every half hour from the station at Cosme Velho, and the journey to the top takes 20 minutes. Cost of the ticket ranges from R$56 to R$68 depending on the season.

By Van: departs from both Largo do Machado, and Copacabana starting 8 AM. Cost varies from R$39 - R$49 including roundtrip and entry fee.

Hike: hike up through the Tijuca rainforest which takes 2-3 hours to reach the top.
