Gibbston Valley, also known as "valley of vines" is a place where some of the world’s best Pinot Noir can be tasted in various wineries, restaurants and cellar doors. Gibbston is one of the world's most scenic wine growing area, surrounded by mountains and the rocky Kawarau River gorge.

Cold winters, hot dry summers and a huge night-to-day temperature range have led to great wine production in this area. Majority of the grapes grown here are pinot noir; other varieties includes chardonnay, pinot gris, riesling and sauvignon blanc.

Apart from wines, in Gibbston you will get excellent cheese varieties. Washed rind and sheep's milk cheese are the most famous ones.
