Griffith Observatory is located on the south slope of Mount Hollywood in Los Angeles, offering view of the Los Angeles Basin, Downtown Los Angeles, Hollywood and the Pacific Ocean. Griffith Observatory is specially popular as a viewpoint to the Hollywood Sign and amany space and science-related displays.

1. Samuel Oschin Planetarium: 290-seaer planetarium with an engaging live storyteller

Timing
First show starts at 12:45 p.m. , ends at 8:45 p.m.. Shows run every 60 to 90 minutes on Tuesday to Friday. On weekend show starts at 12:45 p.m. , ends at 10:45 p.m. Children under 5 are admitted ONLY to the first show each day.

Ticket (purchased only at the observatory): $3.00 to $7.00

2. Leonard Nimoy Event Horizon Theater Programs
190-seater Theatre conducts programs, lectures, presentations, and demonstrations. Seating is first come, first served basis.

Permanent Programs

a. The Once and Future Griffith Observatory: 24 minutes presentation on History and future of Griffith Observatory

b. All Space Considered: Conducted on First Friday of Every Month. Offers a peep into most talked about subjects in astronomy, space science, and space exploration
Timing: 7:30 p.m. to 9:45 p.m.

 

3. Public Telescopes and Star Parties
Free public telescopes are available. Telescope demonstrators are available to guide you through the observing

A a public star party is conducted on a saturday every month from 2:00 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. Idea of fun here is talking to astronomers, looking at the sun, moon and planets, trying variety of telescopes

 

How to Reach Griffith Observatory

DASH Observatory public bus:
Runs from the Vermont/Sunset Metro Red Line station to the Observatory.
Timing - Monday to Friday: 12:00 noon to 10:00 p.m., Saturdayt o Sunday:10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Cost - 50 cents
