Hellbrunn Palace was built as a sanctum for pleasure and distraction for Markus Sittikus, prince-archbishop of Salzburg at that time. Hellbrunn Mountain is a naturally abundant source of water, which became a central design feature of the palace grounds. Containing many tricky fountains with varied hydraulic attractions, this place is popular among tourists.
Hellbrunn is worth a visit in winters too. Near Christmas, the palace courtyard and the old driveway are transformed into a festive Advent market.
