Lake Wakatipu is the longest lake on New Zealand's South Island. It is a heaven for both serenity seekers as well as adventure seekers. A day on Lake Wakatipu could be highlight of your trip to Queenstown. Because of its unusual shape, Lake Wakatipu has a 'tide' , which causes the water to rise and fall about 10 centimetres every 25 minutes or so.
The best way to appreciate the magnificent alpine scenery here is through cruising. The T.S.S. Earnslaw, a vintage steamship, cruises the lake every day.
During the cruise, apart from witnessing the majestic mountain ranges, you can have dinner at Walter Peak High Country Farm. Tour options are available for both families and solo adventurers.
There are various tour options available for adventure seekers too. Extreme jet boat, an off-road adventure in the Southern Alps or Paradise Valley, helicopter tours are few of the options. Love birds can have romantic picnic atop Cecil Peak.
