Identified by its lotus look like structure, Lotus Mahal is one of the fine architectural structure. Lotus Mahal is located within the Zenana Enclosure, a segregated area that is used by the royal women of Vijayanagara Dynasty. Lotus Mahal is also known as the Kamal Mahal or Chitragani Mahal.
Symmetrically designed it is surrounded by a rectangular wall and four towers. There are around 24 pillars to support the arched windows and balcony of the palace. The walls and pillars are carved beautifully with patterns like sea creatures and birds.
The walls are protected from Sun and rain by the curved eaves that run continuously around the building. There are 8 pyramidal towers rise over the central and corner bays of the building. There are water channels in the upper floors and between the arches to keep the Mahal air-cooled in hot summers of Hampi.
