Located midway between Ubud and Bali’s capital of Denpasar, this fall is the closest natural attraction within only a half-hour distance from southeast of Ubud town. On the way to Tegenungan Fall you can expect village setup with greenery of rice fields on both sides of the road. Located in the Kemenuh village within a jungle, Tegenungan Waterfall is surrounded by tropical trees.
You can reach Tegenungan Waterfallin only 30 minutes from Ubud. To reach the waterfall, hire a full day or half day cab. This way you can explore the nearby attractions such as rice fields and other waterfalls too.
You can find art and souvenir shops, together with small local ‘warung’ stalls selling snacks and cold drinks in this area.Bebek Tamarind is the largest restaurant here and serves great local dishes such as its signature Balinese style crispy fried duck.
From the shop area, it is only a few minutes walk to the Fall where you will get a panoramic view of the water falling down the mountains. From the entrance you will have to walk down 100 stairs to reach the Tegenungan Waterfall. The stairs are not difficult to climb. Wear shoes to take extra caution if stairs get wet. You can have a top view of the waterfall from one of the cafes.
WHEN TO VISIT TEGENUNGAN WATERFALL ?
The fall is strongest during the wet season i.e in the months of October to April. It is best to visit in the morning during summer season, water won’t be hot then and you can have a nice swim with less crowd.
SWIMMING IN TEGENUNGAN WATERFALL
Many of the waterfalls in Bali doesn’t allow swimming, so Tegenungan Waterfall is the only waterfall left for travellers looking to swim. This also result into a lot of crowd in Tegenungan Waterfall. Due to many people swimming, water here is not completely transparent but yet it is worth exploring. It is refreshing and worth your time. You can find toilets and changing rooms here as well as there are lifeguards too, all of which is missing in other secret waterfalls of Bali.
