Well-known for its exceptional architecture and craftsmanship, Vittala temple is the most famous structure in Hampi.
Vittala, after whom the temple is known, is a form of lord Vishnu. The temple was originally built in the 15th century AD. Many successive kings have enhanced the temple campus during their regimes to the present form. You can even see the remains of a township called Vittalapura that existed around this temple complex.
The most interesting structures of the temple are its pillars which make musical sound once tapped. The great architectural marvel is also known as 56 melodic columns with each column being made of stone. SAREGAMA Pillars is another name given to them for their stand out construction.
The other attractions in this temple complex are the Goddess's shrine, the 100-pillared hall, the Kalyana Mandapa and the pillared corridor all around the enclosure wall.
