Yayoi Kusama Museum is dedicated to the work of an artist with unusual ideas, named Yayoi Kusama. Pumpkins and Polka dots motifs are her signature work.

The museum itself is famous for its architecture. The minimalist design, stacked cube structure with windows for inflow of natural light and air is worth to be noticed.

YAYOI KUSAMA EXHIBITIONS

  • 2nd Floor: 1st exhibition is displayed here. It displays a series of 50 paintings named under 'Love Forever'. You can find faces in objects within the paintings.
  • 3rd Floor: Features My Eternal Soul series. There are 530 of her works till date.
  • 4th Floor: Features  Infinity Mirror Room covered with spotted phalli. In the latest collection, the pumpkins and mirrors are fused. This collection is named 'Pumpkins Screaming About Love Beyond Infinity'. Polka dot Pumpkins are featured in a black room where pumpkins are lit up randomly. This assembly is picture worthy.
  • 5th Floor: Features rooftop sculpture of a glittery pumpkin and a reading room. You can also view Tokyo Skyline from here.

MUST SEE WORKS OF KUSAMA

The Infinity Room

This is the highlight of the visit to Yayoi Kusama Museum. This room reflects little spotted pumpkins to infinity in a box. This mirror work is an art in itself. The most intriguing part is there is no reflection of you in the mirrors. The technical aspect of this room is very impressive.

The library and rooftop garden

The fifth floor of the museum houses a library which has several reading materials and galleries. But the highlight is a dazzling pumpkin statue on the rooftop. In summer it especially shines beautifully in the sunlight. One more thing worth noting here is that all the windows are shaded with a subtle matrix of tiny dots and seeing the city view through these windows leaves an impression in your mind.
