Vinicunca, popular as the Rainbow Mountain, is the fourth largest mountain in Peru located in the district of Pitumarca. It is located on the road to the Ausangate mountain. Cerro Colorado Vinicunca is popular for hiking among adventure enthusiasts.
Hiking Time. 2.5 – 3.5 hours to the summit.
Starting Altitude. 14,160 feet
Ending Altitude. 17,060 feet
Length. 7 km to the summit, 7 km back on the same path.
Difficulty: Medium to Difficult (his hike has stretches with a high degree of difficulty so it is recommended to be in good physical condition.)
How to get to Vinicuna
- Drive or take a taxi from Cusco to the town of Pitumarca, from here trail passes through several rural communities such as Ocefina, Japura, Hanchipacha, until arriving at the community of Pampa Chiri.
- From Pampa Chiri walk till 5Kms to the Vinincunca pass, where you can see the natural formation in the shape of a rainbow, considered the Mountain of Colors.
