Checkpoint Charlie was the name given to the crossing point between East Berlin and West Berlin during the Cold War. The sign displaying – "YOU ARE LEAVING THE AMERICAN SECTOR" – in English, Russian, French and German, is the highlight of this attraction.

Checkpoint Charlie is located at the junction of Friedrichstraße with Zimmerstraße and Mauerstraße. An open air exhibition on the corner of Schützenstraße and Zimmerstraße tells the story of those that failed and those that succeeded in escaping East Berlin through this checkpoint.
