Rethymnon has a great beach and a lovely little port area. Also has a huge Venetian fortress, a good Archaeological Museum, a Historical and Folk Art Museum, and some smart hotels and restaurants.
People come here in search for a fairy-tale romance amidst Venetian architecture, catholic churches and cobbled path.
Must See in Rethymnon
The Fortezza: has interesting ruins of the fortress plus offers sweeping view of the town and the sea.
Archaeological museum:Exhibition of items from Neolithic to Roman times, located at the entrance of the Fortress.
History museum: Located on Vernardou 30, exhibiting textile and basket weaving, embroidery & lace, costumes, ceramics, historic photographs and maps, weapons and coins
Mosques: Neratze mosque on Vernardou 30 is the main minaret. Other minarets to look at are the Kara Musa Pasa and Veli Pasa
Rimondi fountain:Public fountain with a cafe right beside it.
Souliou street: Best place for shopping and souvenir hunting
Carnival: Rethymno carnival is conducted during late February/early March. Streets are filled with colorful and strange outfits, unusual themes and lots of people.
